About This Project
Celebrating friendships, Sarah explores ideas through her ceramic work. Using clay as a metaphor for friendships and the 109-mile Cleveland Way walk in 2023-24 with two dear friends, each piece reflects life’s ups and downs and their shared journey. The clay's support mirrors the support friendships provide, both during walks and in life. Sarah’s creations echo the landscape—boulders, standing stones—and capture the essence of walking with friends and its influence on her as a ceramicist.
Sarah is a sculptural ceramicist whose work preserves the experiences that inspire it. Stories and narratives are central to her art, created with contextual depth that evokes unique responses. Her work is rooted in nature, particularly the North York Moors’ rocks, cliffs, and forms. Shape, line, and space fuel her designs.
Her process begins with a walk, a view, a photo, and an abstract painting, evolving into clay forms shaped through touch and celebrating unpredictability. Texture, pattern, and marks convey her ideas without words. Influenced by figurative forms like standing stones, gateposts, and boulders, Sarah’s ceramics reflect the rugged moors, weathered rocks, heather, and coastal beauty.
